Useless lectures

Q1) Angle inscribed in a semicircle is a right angle, Prove!
Q2) What is Newton's third law of motion, Explain with an Example!
Q3) What will you do if a student at your school happens to stuck a rupee coin in his/her throat?

Which standard, do you think, does this question paper belong to? sixth, ninth or twelfth?

None, this is a test which teachers had to take in an interview at a famous school in New Delhi. The examination hall was no different from CAT exam center. Out of around 30 applicants for the job, a couple of them could answer Q3, close to the correct answer. Rest all were puzzled. Hope, they left the examination hall with a lesson learnt.

The first two questions didn't serve any purpose either. It's sad, that neither are schools aware of ways to recruit a good a teacher nor there are any!

The Questions should have been

Q1) An angle in a semicircle is a right angle. So what?
Q2) Every action has equal and opposite reaction, says Newton's third law. Demonstrate.

If you ask a teacher, "how would you deal with a student who is caught sleeping in the last bench?", the common answers would be, "Will ask the student to get out of the class" OR "It's OK, the subject can be boring at times, so its fine until he is not disturbing the class". How many would think of finding new ways of making it interesting so that every one enjoys / learns and the student sleeping on the last bench wakes up and joins the class? Because of an inefficient teacher, majority of students loses interest in the subject.

One out of hundred would you find such a teacher, who really understands what it takes to become a mentor. Some enjoy the authority, while some just enjoy the salary. Teachers are the most important part of the education system, and hence needs special care.

"I hate my teacher" has around 4600 members with more than 200,000 students joined in similar communities only on face book. Many sites and blogs talk about how bad and useless teachers are and ways to avoid them.
